How would Google find out if I reward people for writing reviews? Can’t I just give them a cookie?
First of all, don’t advertise a reward ANYWHERE. Not on a piece of paper- nowhere traceable.
How can they tell?
The main 2 ways are frequency and publishing.
Frequency- if you didn’t have reviews for months and suddenly you are getting 50 every day, your Google My Business will be frozen for suspected fraud.
Publishing- If you publish anything online (or if someone tweets) about you giving a reward for reviews, there are web crawlers looking for content just like that. Again, they will shut you down.
A competitor is listed above me and they have fewer reviews, why?
There are several factors in the algorithm that Google (in particular) uses. Some of them are: Review Ratings, website activity, social presence, negative reviews, review freshness, frequency of reviews (this can shut you down, so be careful).
Where can you monitor reviews from?
Our software pulls from 70+ industry sites like Yelp, Angies’ List, Autotrader, etc. Contact us if you have a question about a particular review site.
